BumaStemra leads the way with an innovative AI detection pilot
1 May 2025

BumaStemra is actively exploring the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI). In recent months, we conducted a pilot project focused on detecting AI-generated content in musical works, an important step towards safeguarding human creativity in the age of AI.
Forward-thinking pilot with Matchtune and Ircam Amplify
This innovative pilot was carried out in collaboration with leading tech partners Matchtune and Ircam Amplify. We shared a large number of sound files to evaluate how effectively the technology can identify AI-generated works.
Findings and challenges
Both partners use advanced systems that assign a confidence score to indicate whether a piece is likely to be fully AI-generated. Interestingly, some AI platforms, such as SUNO, can already be detected with greater precision than lesser-known models. This was one of the key insights from the pilot.
However, the technology is not yet perfect or fully reliable. Some works were flagged as “likely AI-generated” despite having been created before the rise of AI platforms. Our pilot partners are using these results to further improve their detection systems.
Valuable insights for the future
This pilot has provided valuable insights that will help us better protect the interests of human music creators in an evolving digital landscape. We will continue to follow and actively test new developments in this area.
At BumaStemra, we remain committed to technological innovation. By proactively exploring new tools and solutions, we aim to stay ahead of changes in the music industry and support the needs of our rightsholders.
