Music Identification

How do we track your music?

BumaStemra works hard to collect and distribute royalties for music usage accurately, quickly, and efficiently. That’s why we use the latest technologies to recognize music. These fall under the umbrella of Music Recognition Technology: smart tools that contribute to better music identification, more insight into usage, and a fairer distribution of royalties.

Fingerprinting with DJ Monitor, Pioneer DJ, and SoundAware

Fingerprinting is a technique that allows music to be automatically recognized, even without metadata. BumaStemra works closely with partners such as DJ Monitor, Pioneer DJ, and SoundAware to make this possible. Thanks to this collaboration, we can automatically match a large amount of music and reduce the number of unidentified works.

Festival organizers can submit their audio to us. We then identify the works used. DJ Monitor and SoundAware process this audio through their systems and create setlists. This way, at every event, we identify at least 95% of the works and can pay out royalties more accurately to the rights holders.

Club monitoring with DJ-Monitor

For club nights, BumaStemra collaborates with DJ-Monitor and various clubs. During events, music usage is registered in real time. Pioneer equipment provides data, which DJ-Monitor supplements with audio fingerprinting.

This approach is especially valuable for dance, urban, and hip-hop creators. It allows us to link music more accurately to performances and ensures fairer and more direct royalty payments.

DJ monitoring and automatic setlists via Vollou

Vollou offers an innovative solution that allows DJs to automatically record their performances via an app. The sets are analyzed, linked to the works used, and shared with BumaStemra. BumaStemra then reports these performances to sister organizations. As a creator, you know exactly when your music has been played and receive a fair royalty.

AV monitoring with Osmoz

With Osmoz, we monitor television broadcasts in fifteen countries. The technology automatically recognizes music used. Metadata is shared with BumaStemra, and we receive reports on foreign usage of your work.

When your music is used in international programs, we can now systematically detect and claim it.

Unidentified Performances

With Unidentified Performances, we automatically analyze foreign lists of unidentified music usage using software. Music usage that was previously missed, such as in foreign films or series, can still be claimed. This makes it easier to receive royalties for missed registrations.

Non-scripted content solutions

We have developed non-scripted content solutions for TV programs without scripts, where cue sheets are often not available. Using audio fingerprinting, music usage in programs such as reality shows and sports is still recognized. This improves the visibility of your work in popular VOD content. BumaStemra is a market leader in this area.

Looking ahead

And it doesn’t stop here. We continue to optimize existing tools and develop new applications to better and faster track where your music is used. This ensures you receive what you’re entitled to — anywhere in the world.
